Want to sell online? Turn your WordPress site into an eCommerce store!
Do you like to buy groceries, shop for new clothes or make appointments online? Or, do you pay your monthly bills through an online portal? If you perform any of these tasks, you’re engaging in eCommerce! In this post, we’ll talk about how WordPress can become an incredible eCommerce platform where you can sell your products or services online.
A brief eCommerce history
It’s mind-blowing to think about how much internet shopping has changed over the past 10 years. Or, how about even the past year!As each of us increasingly uses technology to connect with family and friends, so we also will buy more online and seek to have our favorite things delivered right to our homes. Check out this interesting article that talks about the growth of online shopping in 2020. And this Wikipedia timeline goes over the history of eCommerce.
Did you know that Amazon is less than 30 years old? It seems hard to imagine life without it now, but Amazon started out as one of the earliest online stores in 1995…by selling books.1 And remember when Netflix used to mail DVDs to your home so you could watch and then return them? They’ve only had streaming video options since 2007.2 That’s less than 15 years ago!
Given the rapid changes we’ve seen, it’s exciting to see where tech will be in the next 5-10 years.
eCommerce and WordPress
If you’ve already got a WordPress site up and running, you can convert it into an eCommerce store! I won’t get into the nitty-gritty here, but WooCommerce is a powerful tool that plugs into your site and creates an easy way to build from it for your specific needs.
You can use a variety of payment platforms, from Stripe to PayPal to Authorize.net and beyond. You can also sell a whole range of digital or physical products and services. Want to sell locally with curbside pickup? We can set that up for you! Want to ship items only to customers in the USA? We’re here to help.
