Web Design Portfolio Spotlight on Music Matters Blog
One of my recent TJ Design website projects was to freshen up the look and feel of the awesome Music Matters Blog!
Music Matters Blog is a great resource site for music educators, with tons of links, practice incentives, giveaways and more. Best of all, the MMB owner has a passion for teaching and encouraging others in a lifetime of learning.
Our primary goal for the redesign was to visually reorganize the existing content. It had been several years since I’d created the previous site design and it was time for an update! This site has tons of content since it’s been in existence for more than 10 years. It also features a store area through the Ecwid platform.
I met with the client for a consultation on her needs and worked to incorporate her color and layout requests in my theme customizations. The final result is a bright, colorful website with a cleaned-up look and feel.
In addition to the layout, I made progress on improving the internal WordPress site itself by removing old plugins and adding new ones that took the site to the next level. By client request, I worked on the blog categories to reorganize as needed and redirected old category links.
I selected icons to represent each of the blog’s four main categories and added the feeds (with customized nofollow links) so content from four outside websites displays on the home page.
In order to feature the blog posts with free items in the footer of the site, I encouraged the client to tag her posts with a new “Free Resources” tag. This allows for an easy way to flag posts that site visitors frequently have an interest in.
Finally, I was so glad to be able to work on this project and help give Music Matters Blog some visual and organizational clarity!
