What is WordPress? Why small business owners should care…
What is WordPress? If you’ve heard of WordPress, you might wonder if it’s applicable for your business. After all, isn’t WordPress mostly for bloggers?
I’m here to tell you that WP is for bloggers, e-commerce stores, small service-based businesses, large corporations and more. The WP platform offers a huge advantage over plain HTML websites because it offers an easier way to manage large quantities of content. In other words, it’s a great Content Management System (CMS).
For small businesses, WordPress offers extensibility. This means that WordPress can go from a one-page website when your business is just starting out to a larger site as you grow. You can add image galleries, contact forms, autopost features to social media and more. The WordPress plugin repository has TONS of options for adding cool features to your site. WordPress themes are in abundance and WordPress customizations can make your site visually stand out from the crowd.
In addition, many developers have premium plugins for WordPress since it’s a commonly used website platform. In fact, according to one site, WordPress powers almost a third of the internet.1
There are cons to WordPress though. Since WordPress is such a commonly used platform, it’s susceptible to security issues and needs to have updates performed on it fairly often. It also has potential to break more easily since it uses both a database and the actual site files. With that being said, if you have a WordPress maintenance expert like TJ Design, we can help with upkeep on your site as needed.
In conclusion, WordPress offers an easier way for businesses to manage content, sell products and develop an online space on the web. I’d highly recommend WP if you decide to have a website for your business!
