No default
I love the idea of having a back-up plan. If this doesn’t work, then I’ll do that, I tell myself. If all else fails, then there’s always something else. I think it’s the innate programmer in me. After all, PHP code is designed with back-up options. You know,
if (statement1) { something something something; }
else if (statement2) { something something something; }
else { something something something; }
So, it makes sense that I LIKE and APPRECIATE backups. My whole day is spent with a computer that allows for undoing something or resetting to the default. Which makes me especially prone to loving a default option in everything.
But what about a life without any backups? At first thought, it sounds scary. I mean, what if I crash my car somewhere? Wouldn’t it be a good thing to have an emergency account so I can spend the money necessary to make repairs? Yes, of course. That’s a good thing. But it’s not what I’m referring to, really. I’m talking more about a mindset towards life.
My point is this…with Jesus, you don’t need a default option at all. It’s not even a good idea to say that if all else fails, He is my default. I mean, really? Shouldn’t He BE the plan? Yes, yes and yes! Don’t think that if all else fails, Jesus will be your backup plan. He is the only plan that makes everything make sense. No default is needed.
